We heart cupcakes

Friday, June 4th, 2010

We eat use them whenever possible.

With Gumtree, with Miele and sometimes Aussie too.

Giving cupcakes is great. Getting them is so much better. So, as you can probably imagine, we were made up when this absolute monster of a cupcake arrived at our office yesterday afternoon!

Nothing too fancy, just the perfect gift from every one at The Family Cake Company, thanking us for our business these past few months. Nom. There was just about enough to feed everyone in the office and well, it didn’t last very long…

Remember delight and surprise? Yeah, that.

Have a great weekend everybody! :)

The Rambling Restaurant

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Last weekend, several intrigued diners found themselves wandering around our Great Windmill Street office as we transformed what is normally our office space into a rather dazzling Moulin Rouge-themed den of hedonism.

As per the invitation, our guests (as well as a few 1000heads staff) donned corsets and heels to further enhance the setting and why? Because our relationship with bloggers and communities often takes us to strange new places!

Having met Abi and Mei at a PizzaExpress event recently, they told us all about their Rambling Restaurant project and – a few glasses of wine later – the deal was sealed: the ramblers were coming to 1000heads.

You might be surprised to know that their themed rambling restaurant dream (one that they’d been harbouring for a while), lent itself perfectly to our offices, with the setting itself, Great Windmill Street, a veritable cultural history banquet of 1920’s drinking, theatre and illegal boxing.

For those of you unfamiliar with the rambling restaurant phenomena, these are one-time-only ‘pop-up’ restaurants that offer like-minded foodies the opportunity to wine and dine in interesting (and often extremely top secret) locations.

The evening began with a champagne reception in our high-ceilinged atrium served by our some our very own ‘heads, after which the guests were then led to their tables by our madam waitresses. As you can see from the image above, red drapes, gothic candles and subtle jazz music greeted them as they settled down and met their dining companions for the evening.

The menu consisted of Rillettes de Rambling with Cornichons, Beef Bourguignon with Pommes de terre and finished off with the most amazing Moulin Rouge Velvet Cake.

Our very own drunken fairy then delivered Absinthe cocktails into waiting hands.

Yes, I said ABSINTHE.

We were also treated to impromptu performances by French cabaret singer Anne Pigalle, erotic poet Abi Palmer and finally, the Dazzling Diamond Can-Can girls from Kingston University!

The evening was a fantastic success and it further cemented our relationship with two of the most dedicated and innovative food bloggers around. I can speak for the entire team involved when I say it was a thrill to be involved in the project and we look forward to helping create equally ambitious events in future – we also looked pretty good too (if we do say so ourselves)!

What are you doing this weekend? :)
