Digital Trends 2012
By James WhatleyThis morning I was invited along to speak at the APA Digital Breakfast.
My subject? Digital Trends for 2012.
Alongside two other speakers, Will Francis from Harkable and Jake Hird from Econsultancy, I presented my thoughts on what we might expect to shape our collective digital landscapes over the next twelve months.
The three main trends that I highlighted were: The Internet of Things, Integration and NFC.
The slides are below, however (and for them to actually make sense), I’d strongly recommend clicking through and reading the presentation with the speaker notes [grr] that accompany each slide.
Some afterthoughts -
- The Internet of Things is already here [slides 10-12], but where will it take us? Buses are data points, mobile devices are data points, we are all data points.. so where next?
. - Social media appearing in traditional media [slides 14-15] is just the start; magazines creating socially-sourced content and television programmes driving Twitter conversations are just two examples of the integration that’s happening all around us – have you seen any others?
. - The amount of investment going into all things NFC really is quite incredible; from Barclays, Google, VISA and a whole myriad of phone companies (both OEMs and networks). In many cases it’s already here; contactless payments from Barclaycard are being heavily pushed this Christmas and there have been a whole host of NFC-based initiatives rolling out of late [including our own] – NFC is coming boys and girls, are you ready for it?
Finally, a comedic moment from earlier on the morning when Jake brought up his ‘connected TV has gone mainstream’ slide.
The image he used is taken and applied under creative commons. Good job really, it’s one of my own photos.
An amusing coincidence that aptly demonstrated what happens when people share.
Long live Creative Commons.
