See Africa Differently

Last week, just before we headed off for our away day, 1000heads threw its doors open to help Comic Relief launch their latest awareness initiative, See Africa Differently.

The aim of See Africa Differently is to change perceptions about Africa and help the world find out about all the great news coming from the continent, which is growing, both culturally and economically. With See Africa Differently, this is achieved by celebrating African fashion, music, food, sport, comedy and business.

To that end, last Wednesday, we held an Africa-themed party, with host (and ex-Blue Peter presenter) Andy Akinwolere kicking off the night and getting us into full swing; our very own Mike Rowe welcomed guests, before Amanda Horton-Mastin, Innovation Director at Comic Relief, took to the stage to explain exactly why the See Africa Differently campaign is just so important.

For the event, our friends at Africa Fashion Week London put on an amazing display to showcase some incredible designs from upcoming African designers, and we were treated to the amazing sounds of African music from Mosi Conde. As the wine flowed and the food was delivered and devoured, the party atmosphere was without doubt in full swing, ready for the guest of honour.

The screams of laughter could be heard from the other side of Soho…
Girls got giggly at the sight of him…
It was Eddie Kadi!

Yes, we were treated to a special stand-up performance from Eddie Kadi, a comedian that has previously sold out the O2 and can count Lenny Henry as his number one fan! He was most popular man on the night and managed to get the entire crowd laughing and joking along with him. It was fantastic!

All in all, that’s what happens when you throw together the wonderful people at Comic Relief, inspiring people from international and UK aid and development into a room with some of the country’s best bloggers and the folks at 1000heads – a damn good party!

We are absolutely thrilled to be working with such an inspiring and positive initiative, and we are excited for the things to come. A big thank you to See Africa Differently for letting us host their launch and I guess we’ll see you at the next party!
