3CT #4
By James WhatleyIt’s been a while since we’ve done a round up of the three coolest things we saw last week, what with a certain amount of award entries getting in the way, we thought it was high time to revisit our semi-weekly session with a collection of videos that we shared amongst ourselves last Friday.
First up, Jacqui highlighted this awesome video from the continually daring Nando’s, South Africa [NSA].
UPDATE: The video has been pulled.
When we first kicked off 3CT all those many moons ago, one Riccardo Webb introduced to just some of the innovative [and envelope pushing] ideas that NSA had been rolling out across their marketing channels of late and the above is just yet another piece of content that not only comes close to the line, but dances on it when it gets there.
Nice work Nando’s. We salute you.

Next up, this entry from Buenos Aires, Argentina, that I picked up from friend of 1000heads, Chris Brogan. The idea is simple; instead of doing your average in-store sample packs, why not demonstrate all the work that goes into 100% pure ingredients of Lay’s (aka Walkers) Crisps?
Now, we love a good vending machine but this one caused a bit of a stir amongst our ever-inquisitive [and cool-thing-hungry] ‘heads.
The reason? After the first minute or so of ‘Wow, isn’t that cool?’, you realise that you’re not watching the innards of a machine at all. It’s just a looped video, on an upturned plasma screen which is simply activated every time someone drops a potato in.
It’s a nice gimmick but, the whole idea behind this campaign, behind the whole product in fact, is to demonstrate the 100% pure ingredients; the realness, of the crisps.
After all that build-up, after consumers have actually handled the main part of the ingredients themselves, to then use a computer-generated potato to help tell the story kind of defeats the object a bit. Don’t you think?

Finally, a piece of comedy – and if you haven’t seen this yet WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN. Paul introduced the 10% of ‘heads that hadn’t seen the famous Fenton (not Benton) video, below -
And, the proof in any web-viral-meme pudding? The quick-as-you-like take off -
Great stuff.
Have a great week everybody.
