This is our Google+ post

By Joshua Bourne

Well, the first one at least…

There is an abundance of content being published around the interwebz this week all around the latest piece of social glue known as Google+

Unless you have been living inside your computer rather than right next to it these past few weeks, you no doubt know that Google+ has hit and it, according to the big G themselves at least, seems to be doing very well indeed.

If you’re completely in the dark about Google+ then there are many interesting articles to be read, such as Ron Miller’s review in Internet Evolution. Also be sure to check out the the Google+ playlist on YouTube for the Google branded overview or, if you prefer flicking through slides, then take a look at this fairly definitive presentation from our friends at NixonMcInnes.

[we'll even embed it for you]

We have our opinions on the service here at @1000heads (which I’m sure we’ll come back to another day) however, for today, all we want to know is this very simple two-part question:

Have you used it yet and what do you think?

We’d love to get opinions from all of you; journalists, social media analysts, fellow agencies, clients, readers passing by. Where did you hear about it? Are you on it? What have you done with it? Will you be sticking with it?

After playing with G+ for only a few days, I felt it necessary to publish an apology to Google for my previous negativity… http://stayhappyanddontdie.com/?p=672

I have signed up and had a play. I even ‘Hungout’ with a mate I hadn’t spoken to for a while…But I think it will take more than a few interesting concepts and quick wins over Facebook to sway the masses. When I was sent a funny video by a colleague the first thing I did was go to Facebook where the maximum number of people would see it and I would get the most amount of kudos in the form of likes and comments.

I think it is still early days and I really like some of the features they offer. One question I have is whether Facebook will take note, develop their own answer to Circles and Hangouts etc etc, and remove the need for people to up sticks and make the jump to a brand new platform.

Surfacing the concept of access controls with the Circles construct has led to my G+ page already having more personal thoughts and feelings posted on it than I ever read on Facebook. If I blot out my geek friends’ discussion of googlepoz itself, my stream feels more genuinely interested and sharing than facebook, which feels very much like performance these days.

I am liking it. I do not see 600 million people going over to G+, but that is fine with me, because what I am seeing now is pretty intimate and has little overlap with facebook. It is, for now, two different crowds.

Excellent insight FJ.  It will be very interesting to see how Facebook integrates and/or responds to the Google+ emergence

I remember Google Wave was supposed to be the real Facebook killer,
offering a new social experience, its interface wasn’t that bad and due
the buzz lots of people were eager to jump in, and look how it ended up.

    What’s
interesting about Google+ is the strong stress they put on privacy
issues and one to one (or one to few) interactions. Those ‘Circles’ are
tackling the who-should-I-share-with concerns that FB & Twitter
    haven’t been able to.

What if Google would give the option to merge Google+ with Orkut, bum! 170+ million members

[...] If you’re still unfamiliar with all things Google Plus – aka Google+ – then don’t worry, you’re not alone and, at the moment at least, it’s no big deal. However, now would be a really good time to start reading up (our write up from July might be a good place to start). [...]
